All-rounder Biplab Samantaray continued his impressive performance in the ongoing East Zone Vijay Hazare Trophy Cricket Tournament at Agartala by helping Orissa crush host Tripura by 69 runs today. Orissa rode on a half-century each by Samanataray (80 off 88, 5x4, 2x6) and Rashmi Ranjan Das (51 off 68, 2x4, 1x6) and the duo’s 97 run partnership for the fifth wicket to muster a healthy total of 255 for eight in the stipulated 50 overs.
In reply, the home side were dismissed for 186 in 47.3 overs after suffering a top-order collapse, which saw them lose their first three wickets for 10 runs. Yogesh Takawale was the only successful batsman for Tripura, scoring a half-century.
Samantaray followed his fine knock with two wickets for 13 runs to be adjudged the man of the match. A batting all-rounder, Samantaray hit an unbeaten 97 and picked up two wickets in the previous match against Assam two days ago.
The win against Tripura fetched Orissa five points and increased their tally to nine from three outings. They would conclude their campaign with the last league match against Jharkhand on February 18.
